The ATC SCM40A speaker has three amplifiers to power each driver individually in the enclosure with a 150W module for the bass, 60W for the midrange and a 25W.Thanks again for your informative reviews and thanks in advance for any comparative information on these two types of systems that you might be able to provide. Sounds like another audition is in the works for me! And more research into a streaming DAC preamp should I go active rather than passive. I’m just wondering if I could get closer to what I’m actually after in the ATC actives- I listen to a lot of jazz, Latin, Brazilian, World, Classical, some classic rock, a little bit of everything- maybe even bypassing a few upgrades and saving a few $$$ along the way. ATC SCM40 floorstanding loudspeakers are the flagship passive speakers in the SCM range, delivering a performance of speakers ‘three or four times the price’. ![]() Recently, I’ve been intrigued by the ATC SMC40s, especially for the mid, and your following comment resonated with me.īeing, yourself an owner of the PMC Twenty5.24s, how would you characterize a comparison of a passive PMC Twenty5-Hegel combo with the active ATC SCM40As? And would you consider the sealed ATC SMC40A a more room size-friendly floorstander than the transmission line PMC 3-way model? I’ve come to really like PMC and what the Hegel integrated offers- especially with onboard DAC, Soundengine 2, and streaming (eventual Roon) as I use Qobuz. The SCM40 exhibits an impedance curve free from low values, presenting an easy load for amplifiers of 75 to 300 watts. ![]() While I love the 3-way flagship model because of the dedicated mid, I’m afraid it would be too much for space. The transition of frequencies between drivers is seamless working harmoniously and this is more apparent or should I say less with track six Big Beans which is. PMCs are hard to come by where I’m located, but I have found luck in auditioning several. I have for awhile had my mind set on a PMC Twenty5/i floorstander (first love was the 25.23, but leaning toward the 25.24i) paired with Hegel H390 integrated power amp and Parasound JC-3 Jr. ![]()
